Review:This week we spent our devotion time talking about what miracles and parables are. It has been really fun to see the students just soak up all they can! They LOVE the new songs and HAD to sing them for Ms. Jody when she came back on Thursday :). Looking Ahead:This week we will finish up our snow study. We will have a fire/tornado drill on Monday. We will be staying inside a lot this week with the cold temperatures, but please be sure to check the sign in the office if we will be able to go out. If we do go out, I will have the kiddos put on ALL their snow clothes for warmth even though we don't have a lot of snow to play in.

Review:This week we wrapped up our study on Jan Brett. We also created storms in Kindermusik with Ms. Heidi. The students had fun having a snow storm and throwing "snow balls". Thursday, Sunday Ford, a naturalist from Oak Grove came and taught us about bears. We were even able to feel the fur, claws, and head of a real brown bear. Looking Ahead:![]() This week we will begin our study on snow. With everything that was going on last week, we didn't have much time to work with our focus board, so we'll have another week with many of the sections of our board.

Review:We had a great week back at school this week! I was very impressed with how well the kiddos adjusted to being back at school after break. We had fun reading and acting out The Mitten and The Hat by Jan Brett. They loved being the different animals and did a great job retelling each story. Looking Ahead:We will continue our study on Jan Brett. We will continue to talk about the different parts of books. Ms. Jody will be gone for the next two weeks, but we are excited to have Ms. Christy and Ms. Mindy helping in our classroom. We will have Kindermusik on Wednesday and Sunday Ford will be coming on Thursday!

Many will be going home this week, so please don't be concerned if your child's backpack has been empty this week :). We had a fun day with Ms. Heidi in Kindermusik where we got to play a variety of instruments and sleigh bells. We also practiced our Fire and Tornado drill on Thursday (which was a great practice since Ms. Elise totally forgot about it :D) We were able to go outside a lot and with the warmer weather we will continue to go out. Please be sure to send snow clothes every day! You may want to check if they need to go in the dryer at night if they are a bit damp with the melting snow. Looking Ahead:![]() It is the last week before Christmas break and we have a full week of fun planned! We will be having a Polar Express week ending with a party on Wednesday. You child is invited to wear their pajamas on Wednesday. Please keep all snuggly items home as we will be busy moving around a lot of the day :) We have been practicing a lot for our Christmas Program on Tuesday night at 6:00 at the BJ Haan Auditorium at Dordt College. Dec. 24-Jan. 3 No School! Review:Talk about a crazy week! The kiddos were troopers with the crazy schedules and MANY make up activities. We had a lot of fun counting Christmas cookies with Ms. Lisa on Tuesday. We were also able to go outside this week! Thank you for sending warm winter cloths with your child! Even though we've only been able to go out for about 10-15 minutes each morning, it has certainly been worth it. Plus, the practice of putting on and taking off their snow clothes has been great! We also played an exciting game of Builders and Destroyers yesterday in the gym. Looking Ahead:![]() This week we will continue our Christmas study. Helping the students make those connections between the "regular" Christmas traditions and the story of Christmas is my main goal this Christmas. Last week, we learned the meaning of the Christmas tree and drew connections to the tree in the Garden of Eden. This week we'll learn about how the candy can tells the story of Jesus' life.

Dec. 24-Jan. 3 No School! Review:This week we worked a lot with shapes. Because of our snow/ice day on Thursday, we are going to wrap up our study on shapes on Monday before we jump into Christmas. (let's hope for no snow days next week :D) Below are a couple picture from some fun shape work we did this week. We used different shapes or snippets to create our own pictures. Our snippet artwork is hanging in the hallway. During our Shape Shift small group I asked the student to identify the shapes before we started created as a review from when we read the book earlier in the week. When I showed them the semi-circle one students response was that it was a TRUCK circle! Very clever! Looking Ahead:![]() We will wrap up our shapes study on Monday. We will also have the same group of Dordt students that have been coming this fall come to do their final assessment with the students on Monday morning. Tuesday, Lisa Laird will be coming to read to the students with her puppets. We are beginning our Christmas study this week. We will be focusing mainly on Tree this week and the meaning of the Christmas tree. We will also have an elf in our classroom this month. I have modified the purpose of the Elf on the Shelf to better fit the true meaning of Christmas. Here is a link to the letter I will read on Monday: Elf on the Shelf Letter. If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know! Be sure to watch the blog to see what our Elf is up to in our classroom :)

Review:We had a great week! I just wanted to share quick about something really awesome that happened in our classroom that the students probably didn't even know. I planned my devotions for this year already this summer and didn't really focus on how they lined up with our Bible verses. This week we learned the Bible verse: I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Each day we learned about a different person in the Bible who needed God's strength: David when he fought Goliath, Queen Esther when she had to save the Hebrews, Shadrach, Mishach and Abednego in the fiery furnace. How great it is to see how God planned it out perfectly that each of the Bible lessons we had this week focused on how each of the "main characters" couldn't success with their own strength but with GOD'S STRENGTH! Thank you for coming in to chat about each of the kiddos this week. I enjoyed connecting with each of you again. Please don't wait until conferences the chat if anything comes up, I truly enjoy partnering with each of you. Looking Ahead:With the week being only 2 days, this blog post will be shorter :) The focus board will stay the same this week, and there will be no star of the week. Tuesday is our visitor day, so each students can invite 2 visitors to come for the last hour of the morning. We will be having a feast together. They are each asked to bring an item to share that begins with the first letter of their name (i.e. Raegan's Red Grapes - that's what my daughter decided to bring :D)

We will skip small groups on Monday so Ms. Jody and I can be present during the assessments. On Tuesday, we will have 7th grade students from Sioux Center Christian come in for World Kindness Day. They will be making puppets and sharing a snack with our kids. Our study on pets will wrap up this week. The students have enjoyed exploring the difference between pets and wild animals.
